Contactless Debit Cards

FMB is in the process of migrating our debit cards to contactless cards.  The project will be completed May 2025.  Cards will be replaced with the upgraded feature as they expire.  Our ATM’s will also be upgraded in May to accept contactless cards.

What is a contactless debit card?

A contactless debit card is a debit card that uses near field communication (NFC) technology to allow for quick and secure payments without the need to insert the card or enter a PIN:

  • How it works-When a contactless debit card is held near a contactless-enabled terminal, encrypted card information is sent between the card and the terminal.
  • How to use it-To make a purchase, simply hold the card within a couple of inches of the contactless symbol on the terminal. The terminal will usually indicate when the purchase is complete.
  • Where to use it-Contactless debit cards can be used anywhere that accepts the card, including online or over the phone. In the U.S., many merchants accept contactless payments, including fast food restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, and vending machines.
  • How to identify-Look for the contactless symbol on the terminal's screen when contactless payment is accepted.
  • Benefits-Contactless encrypted payments are a hassle-free way to pay that saves time and cards last longer.
